Termites and forests

Given coal theory and the precondition of accumulation of forest biomass, one wonders what the termites would have been doing about It? After all no modern forests are accumulating a bed of vegetable matter since the termites generally consume the lot, with the help of natural lightning strikes, and of course fires that start spontaneously with composting vegetation.

Just saying.
